Using the camera on your Smartphone or tablet there are many apps available, some are free, some are paid for and others can be used without paying. This is a list of the most popular ones along with some instructions.
Merlin Bird ID
Take a picture or record the song of a bird and it will be identified, available from the relevant app store and is free to use. Keep an eye out for updates within the app as it is forever expanding

When you open these apps you get the choice of a 7 day trial then a yearly fee or if you want free access
in the top right corner you will find CANCEL written (very dim) click on that and the app is free to use.
You just have to do it everytime you open it.
